Apple has just unveiled the iPhone OS 3.0 and we are really excited. Lots of features, improvements and innovation as expecte. The best part is that the 1st Gen iPhone would also get the 3.0 OS…
So here is what the iPhone 3.0 OS brings:
- Cut /Copy / Paste – Finally you can copy and paste text aswell as images. Copy / Paste would also let you copy sms text and forward it. So Sms forwarding also comes officially to the iPhone. You can copy multiple photos togethere and email them all at once. (Text can be moved across apps)
Spotlight in action
- Search and Spotlight: The iPhone now gets a new home page. This brings the iPhone search functionality to compete with what we have seen in the Palm PRE. You would be able to search anything on the iPhone by just typing what you want. The results will show everything on the iPhone from contacts, mail, calendar & iPod music for any search query. Data from 3rd Party apps will also show up if they support the Spotlight service in iPhone 3.0.
- iPod gets the shake feature: Shake the iPod to change the track – Just like the new iPod Nano Chromatic.
- Safari would now remember passwords…
- Tethering (3G): You will now be able to use your iPhone as a modem to use that 3G connection on your notebooks.
- Landscape mode for Mail / SMS / Notes: For long any new 3rd party SMS / Mail app on the iPhone would blodly highlight the Landscape mode as a unique feature. Well thats gonna be history! Its would now be officially integrated feature in iPhone 3.0.
MMS in action
- MMS aka Multimedia Messaging is here. But wont work on 1st Gen iPhones due to hardware limitations. Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS
- Also here is AD2P bluetooth – Stereo Music over bluetooth will be possible. But again wont support iPhone 1st Gen. Bluetooth peer to peer is also supported.
- Stocks App is improved and New calendar formats are supported. CalDAV—supported by Google and Yahoo—and subscriptions via the .ics format—which is what Apple uses in iCal
Also coming is Push Notifications, 3rd party apps can use iPod music, audio recording. Though we still miss VIDEO RECORDING. But we can expect that to come with the next iPhone with a better camera. Living on hopes as always …
The firmware upgrade to 3.0 would be free for iPhone users but would cost $9.95 to iPod Touch owners, ouch. iPod touch will unlock the much rumored Bluetooth (with iPhone 3.0) that is present inside the unit since day 1!
